NehoSoul Headquarters, Riverside, Ca. …thanksgiving

As some of you know, Rich Davis (first winner of a Still Dancin’ Award) has been really struggling with health issues and as a result the bryanduncan website that he manages has been behind in updates on whats goin on. Rich is more important than a noodle so bare with us all.

Gigs have still trickled in even with the economy in a serious slide in recent months. Here’s our chance to really shine if we can hold on to a good attitude. It’s also a chance to find some new dance steps!   Mine would include riding my motorcycle to events as far away as Utah and Arizona.

This past month I had a chance to ride to Surprise, Az. for a concert at “Radiant Church”. It was a lot bigger church than I’d imagined. The church has maybe 3000 members, with a very unassuming senior pastor who happens to love motorcycles.

He met me and my friend James at the half way point in Blythe, Ca. with some 17 bikers from Arizona. The crew was made up of a few chapter members of Black Sheep Harley Davidson’s for Christ and Pastor Lee McIntyre’s own church members..radiant riders”.

I played with fifteen musicians from Radiant Church who already play some of my songs as ‘worship’ material.

Together we brought the music to four services. There were two services on Saturday night and two on Sunday morning.

The songs included “wheels of a good thing”, “it gets better” “maybe I’m amazed” and “I’m still dancin” .. complete with all the Horn section and background vocals. To say the least it was church like I couldn’t have imagined it! It was worth riding through a one hour sand storm on Jezebel that literally erased the visibility of the highway beneath us. Something I saw as a real adventure and a new experience.

There have been a myriad of other local gigs mostly too many to cover the details. But all to upstart ministries meeting in office complexes or theaters. They would include in the last month: Discovery Church in Elk Grove, Ca..(meets in a theater) The Gate in Rancho Santa Margarita (office complex), The Crossing in Costa Mesa, Ca (who meet in a tent) and Teen Challenge (meets in a castle).

Christmas gigs are trickling in last minute and even canceling last minute in some cases. The current financial trouble is hitting most everyone. Never the less I have six local Christmas events and a couple pending. So it’s still busy for me. Smaller, and in some cases private events are the order of this year. I believe next year will be a real challenge to stay upbeat and find new ways to be productive.

Here’s where our “Still Dancin” award is gonna really shine. As a way to market the real intentions of the new project “Still Dancin” we’ve started accepting submissions for a “Still Dancin” award. Winners are posted with their story of how their life has changed and what they have done to adjust in a positive way! … (250 words or less).

We are giving a certificate to each ‘winner’. Autographed full color award certificate with the individuals name scripted on it. It’s a way to acknowledge small victories in an ever changing landscape for all of us living frankly.

I have to say the stories coming in cover a spectrum of circumstances and the reads to be posted at awards@bryand.com will be an offering of encouragement in and of itself.

I have personally submitted three names this month and you will read their stories at the above site. Feel free to offer submissions on behalf of yourself or those around you who are finding new ways to dance to a familiar melody within the ‘ever changing rhythm of life’.

O.k. so there’s that …. Bryan D
