Samuel A Mathews


Samuel A Mathews Jr was born in Oakland California where he attended Love Center Church in Oakland California Pastored by Bishop Walter Hawkins. Samuel grew up with a great and varied musicical influence, his grandfather played with Sammy Davis Jr.

Samuel was always inspired and challenged to be a great drummer/musician. Moving with his family to Seattle Washington, Samuel was one of the first freshman to play In the Senior Jazz band his freshman year of high school.

Samuel went on the road as a freshman going to Europe to play with the great Quincy Jones. Sam in his senior year of high school won a full ride scholarship to Lionel Hampton School of Music in Moscow Idaho, where he was required to play with the Lionel Hampton Big Band.

Samuel continued his musical journey playing for various artist such as; Edwin Hawkins, Stephen Michael Newby, Katinas, Rance Allen, Ernestine Anderson, Ray brown and various local artist in the greater Washington and California area. Samuel strives to continue to improve and challenge himself with various styles of playing, for example playing with the Seattle Symphony teams, competing in different drum competitions such as Budshank Jazz competition, and the Guitar Centers drum off.

Samuel is currently playing for Bryan Duncan and The NehoSoul Band as well as Integrity Music Group. These two groups are keeping him busy on the road. Samuel is also currently producing Jingles for radio stations and commercials.
