Nifty Noodles/ underground

Sunday September 28, 03
not sure where I was today... Somewhere near Simi Valley, definitely California... South of Magic Mountain... It was real quick... Up at 6:am drive by Eagle Rock and pick up my sound dude David... Stop at Starbucks and on up the 5 to somewhere...David had the directions so all I remember was "turn here"... A non descript elementary school auditorium. Another "underground church" kind of... Property is hard to find to build churches on they say... This is a three year anniversary. I am an addition to the end of the service... It went very smooth and quick and great...and by noon I was outta there. home by overtime between the Raiders and Chargers... Too bad all the gigs can't be this close... I think of all the time I waste just getting to gigs and back.

So tomorrow, I make the final check on the artwork for Twin Cities Live... My first project out on my own label (Red Road Records). My hope is to have it available in the next three weeks. I'm waiting on the mastering process. Aaah the beginning of life redefined...and hopefully a new redemption... I'm planning a pre-release party at Berean Christian Stores in Riverside... I will play four sets on Saturday November 22nd... It will be the only store to have the record for now... And will be available on line at my website and in concert only, for at least the next four months...

9/21/03 Sunday Daybreak Church
Daybreak is another Seeker church... I've been here before too. The building is small... It hides the real numbers of people that come to two services Sunday and one on Saturday night. Seeker churches spend a lot on video production and I'm sure this church was told they had a state of the art P.A. System... But I beg to differ... It was a mistake to do this gig without my own soundman. My voice tightens when the sound is weak. I have to push really hard and notes I hit easily any other time seem way high.

I demonstrated my ability to be totally frustrated in front of a concert crowd on Saturday night. Finally coming to my senses... I mentioned the trouble with the keyboard as something I must ask for serenity for cause it's something I currently cannot change! One button right in the middle was easily and accidentally pushed sending the on board computer system into a world unknown... To save me I could not find the "exit" switch. I was visibly frustrated. Wasted ten minutes fighting the distraction.

Met some good people though after the show and Sunday morning was a snap... With just two songs per service. Got to play at the famous Seven Bridges golf course in Rancho Santa Fe yesterday so I really can't complain. Stayed on the beach in Carlsbad at the Village. There is very little anxiety in life that can't be reduced substantially by staring out over the Pacific Ocean. Of course it helps if you learn to enjoy the "moment".

Nifty Noodles/ another Wednesday night

9/17/03 San Diego, Ca /Maranatha Chapel
I debuted my newest recordings, (on Celebrate Recovery's new compilation) first by having Molly Jenson sing with me on "Jesus Loves Me Anyway". She is on the record with me and it was a nice few moments... I introduced her as one of the freshest voices I've heard in recent years... I meant it too. Not black gospel or bland church sound but fresh, with a rock edge.

Hard to find unique voices... Seems like everyone's trying to sound like someone else all the time. She "complimented" me by saying she first heard me sing when she was 3 years old. I mentioned that after introducing her on stage... And with all her youthful exuberance, pronounced..." Oh I don't listen to your music anymore!" Wow, right on time!

I was already fighting the feelings of being "old hat" before that. I was defensive the rest of the night about my songs and my style. It still sounds good to me but maybe I'm not paying attention to what is hip these days.

I played "never lied to you" and "don't help the devil" both are on the Twin Cities project that is close to being finished. But like always I forgot to do the "plug" for anything I'm doing. There is almost no interest in my radio show at this church... Folks glaze over when I talk about it... Guess it doesn't sound as spectacular as I know it to be!

You can now go to radiorehab.com and hear them instantly...you can even download the shows. I just finished two more. One on relapse and one on stinkin thinkin. They are just great and I'm loving this more than anything these days... Every week it's a new piece of creativity.

Another Radio station is picking up the shows now in Australia, I could have told that to the crowd tonight too.. 101.9 Wagga's life F.M. In Wagga Wagga. You gotta love that name.

Anyway I must have passed the audition tonight because after four years of playing here on Wednesday nights I was asked to play at their Sunday services. I'm assuming that is a step up.

I know people at this church like I've been going here regularly. But people take off in a hurry on a midweek thing. And by ten p.m. We were outta there.

It's a long drive home after this one... About two hours but David Rowe and I listened to our latest production... Stinkin thinkin and the fellowship was great ... Makes the time go faster. I'm grateful to have a passion for something I can put my time into and see results in a week. And believe that it has the potential to inspire others eventually...

Stay inspired... bryand

Nifty Noodles/ Motown

9/7/03 Plymouth, MI ROC church..
I'm introduced at three services by a guy who says... " I first heard Bryan Duncan when I was three years old" and "back when vinyl records were still around"... Can't tell you how wonderful that feels... I just opened the gigs by singing 4 straight songs before even thinkin about talkin. The Pastor here looks like Jesse Ventura. Made me feel like sucking my stomach in.

I took another stab at redefining my "testimony" and another chance that I would alienate a standard church audience... I survived. Hard to tell what the impact was... The brain worms are working overtime on the negative side lately when I'm on stage... Awful stuff about who I am and if anything I do is relevant and does that matter... Being old, and overweight plays a big part... It's like the imaginary people talking to John Nash in the movie... "A Beautiful Mind".

Played Saturday night and Sunday morning twice... They gave me most of the time about an hour... Can't complain there... Everything went smoothly not much fan fare... Of course this church has had guys in from the WWF recently...and the Power Team too... So I'm sure I seemed pretty tame.

I overcame! I moved on. I expected reality and I got it... And I went home... A very long ride home. It was fine... History was not made but it was fine...

O.K. So there's that. bryand
